Straight answers on tracking BTS trains in real time, operating hours, fares and interchanges.
Yes. The official BTS app and website show routes, maps and timetables, but not live train positions. Bangkok Transit (bangkoktransit.com) is a free, unofficial live tracker that shows real-time BTS train positions on a map and next-train countdowns for every station, updated about every 30 seconds. No app or sign-up is needed.
The official BTS SkyTrain app focuses on route planning and fares and does not show live train positions or precise arrival countdowns. For real-time arrivals, an unofficial tracker like bangkoktransit.com shows how many minutes until the next train in each direction at every station.
There is no public official BTS API. Bangkok Transit provides an unofficial live view of BTS arrivals and train positions, which is why travellers and websites use it when they need real-time data that the official channels do not publish.
The BTS Skytrain runs daily from about 05:15 to midnight. Trains come every 3 to 5 minutes during peak hours (roughly 07:00 to 09:00 and 17:00 to 19:00) and every 5 to 8 minutes off-peak. The last trains leave the end stations around midnight, so plan late trips a little early.
Open bangkoktransit.com, tap your station on the map or search by name or code, and you will see the next trains in each direction with a live countdown in minutes. Arrivals refresh automatically about every 30 seconds.
BTS Green Line fares are distance-based, from 17 THB for 1 to 2 stations up to 45 THB in the core network, and up to 65 THB into the Sukhumvit extensions. Pay with a single-journey token, a Rabbit card, or a contactless Visa or Mastercard. Use the fare calculator at bangkoktransit.com/fare for an exact price between any two stations.
Key interchanges: Asok (E4) to MRT Sukhumvit, Sala Daeng (S2) to MRT Si Lom, Mo Chit (N8) to MRT Chatuchak Park, Ha Yaek Lat Phrao (N9) and Bang Wa (S12) to the MRT Blue Line, Phaya Thai (N2) to the Airport Rail Link for Suvarnabhumi Airport, and Siam (CEN) between the Sukhumvit and Silom lines.
